Bathroom mold and mildew? The problem may be this:
Ever wonder why there is a mold and mildew problem in your bathroom even though you have a bath fan that works?
This type of vent can reduce the amount of air your bathroom fan is moving, creating a humid environment perfect for mold and mildew.
Some common problems can be this little bugger in the picture. This was a common ventilation termination for bath fans in the 1980’s.
This termination device can take an 80 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) bath fan and reduce its termination air flow to as low as 5 CFM. Thats a 94% decrease in efficiency! This means that your bath fan is making noise and that’s it. It is not removing any moisture what so ever.
If you are worried your bath fan might not be running at it’s full potential, check where it vents outside. If you see something similar to this picture, give Harker a call.
